Why a product film is not content

Content fills a slot in a feed. A film asks for a feeling. The difference decides how long anyone remembers your product.

Most brands ask for content. What they usually want is a film, and the two are not the same thing.

Content is measured by volume. It fills a slot, satisfies an algorithm, keeps a grid looking alive. It is designed to be consumed and replaced. There is nothing wrong with it, and every brand needs some.

A film is measured by what stays behind. It has an intention, a rhythm, a beginning and an end. It asks for fifteen seconds of attention and gives something back in exchange.

The test is memory

Ask someone what they saw in their feed yesterday. They will not be able to tell you. Ask them about a fragrance film that moved them three years ago and they will describe the light, the room, the hand reaching for the bottle.

That difference is not budget. It is intention. A film knows what feeling it is chasing before the first frame is made.

What this means for a brief

When a brand comes to me with a product and a deadline, the first question is never about format. It is about feeling. What should someone carry with them after watching? Longing, calm, recognition, appetite, nostalgia?

Once that is decided, everything else follows: the pace of the cut, the quality of the light, whether a hand moves quickly or slowly, whether there is silence or sound.

Get the feeling right and the format takes care of itself.
